Set amidst an enchanting estate, Vaux le Vicomte is a perfect example of baroque architecture and formal garden design of 17th century France. There is much to explore at this château, be it the lavish apartments of its former owners, or the Chambre des Muses with its awe-inspiring ceiling artwork. You can also wander around the estate, which spans close to 500 hectares and is home to exquisite formal gardens and mysterious forests.
The château's original owner, Nicolas Fouquet, was the visionary behind the estate's transformation. Enlisting the services of the king's "Principal Architect" Louis Le Vau, the renowned landscape gardener André Le Notre, and famed painter, Charles Le Brun, he set about creating a truly timeless masterpiece.
